We Are Mythology

Formed in 2007, Mythology is a 3-piece Progressive Rock band from West Milford, NJ with a force and tenacity that is rarely seen in modern bands. Culling influences from the greatest artists of yesteryear, they certainly know how to turn heads with each performance. Elements of Jazz, Hard Rock, Blues, Heavy Metal, Classical, and Cinema all come together in a cohesive and digestible manner. Often compared with the likes of Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Rush, Mythology is able to satisfy listeners of all backgrounds with their unique brand of songwriting. Strict, daring Composition meets wide-open Improvisation in the Mythology world.

Having opened for such prestigious artists as Yes, Peter Frampton, Project/Object, Mythology has had some pretty amazing moments in its 11 year history. And even still, after all those years, it all comes down to the music! Brynen Sosa’s wild Guitar pyrotechnics and eclectic Vocal are nothing short of unique, adventurous, and comedic. Dane Carmichael’s thumping Bass grooves are tastefully employed, yet wild and lightning fast. Jordan Morrissey’s manic Drum patterns are the fuel of the Mythology fire. Mythology’s dedication to their respective instruments is apparent with each listen. However, they are also not afraid to add a metric ton of Humor within their Lyrics to keep the audience chuckling all the while! Being heavily influenced by Satirists such as Jonathan Swift, Tom Lehrer, and William S. Burroughs, Social Commentary and Goofball Comedy is a huge part of what Mythology has to say.

Their upcoming 4th studio album “All The Planets Have Aligned” is a tour de force that takes the listener on a journey through several different emotions and dynamics. A Musical rollercoaster of sorts. By it’s end, the listener will most likely be out of breath! So get ready, here comes Mythology!

“A real great thing going on! A modern type of Jazz!”Rusty Paul

“You wanna see a great band? Check out Mythology, I’m really impressed! They really throw down!”Ray White (Former Zappa Vocalist/Guitarist)

Brynen Sosa

Born in the Summer of 1986, Brynen Sosa’s passion for creativity started young. He was banging out songs on a toy piano as early as 3, and first picked up the Guitar at age 6. Of course he wouldn’t get good at writing songs until about 15 years of age. It was then that he discovered the music of Yes, which he considers a life changing experience: “I’d heard amazing music before that from artists young and old, but Yes made me realize Music wasn’t just cool sounds, it could be beautiful Art. Rock didn’t have to always be crass, it could be sophisticated also. Steve Howe, in particular opened my eyes fully to what one man could do on the Guitar. He was a total renaissance man! Going from Jazz to Country to Psychedelic to Classical to full-blown shred in the space of an 8 minute piece! I knew then, that I had to be as eclectic and technically proficient as that guy! A path I am still on and working towards to this day”

After this epiphany, Brynen Sosa has dedicated his life into creating great music and all the while pushing himself on the Guitar and as a Vocalist as well. Culling inspiration from anything that comes into his radar, Sosa’s tastes are wide and far-reaching. “I’m just as inspired by Frank Zappa as I am Frank Sinatra. Kurt Cobain and Trent Reznor, for example, are quite different aesthetically, but they had the same sort of unflinching approach to their respective crafts. I strive for the same uncompromising vision. Music has a common thumbprint to all of it. If you listen with the right kind of ears, you’ll pick up on the commonalities.”

He formed Mythology in March of 2007, and his life was never quite the same since. At the time, he didn’t know he could even lead a band properly. But jumping in with both feet first, he soon found he was a fish in water. Striving for a band that equally showcased its members, but also focused on heavy ensemble playing, Mythology was a vehicle in which he could create his own Musical language: “I never wanted Mythology to be the ‘Brynen Sosa Show’. When other artists do that, it usually bores me to tears. I wanted to write songs that featured me as the main guy, but had a lot of other spotlights for other players to stretch out and go a little nuts. The result is my own personalized Musical dialect. The vernacular is a work in progress!”

Brynen has composed and arranged songs going as far back elementary school, and loves to collaborate with others on projects. He has worked with several bands from his teen years to now. Currently, he is working on a Comedy Rock album with his former high school band The Big Bad Balonies, he recently joined Baroque Rock band Fair Panic as the live guitarist, and has an extensive solo repertoire. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, dog, cat, and chickens in his humble abode in Northern New Jersey.

Dane Carmichael

Dane Carmichael was born to a musical family. His father was an accomplished guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter, his grandmother a church pianist. As a child, Dane was molded musically by the revolving door of musicians coming and going from his home. Folkies, jazz cats, rockers, funkers, old timers and bluegrass pickers steeped him in a musical environment before he ever picked up an instrument.

At age 11, Dane found an old yellow Ibanez short-scale tele-style four string bass while rummaging through his parents attic. He learned quickly, rarely putting it down. Before long, he was conscripted into various church bands, where he would learn the fundamentals of the rhythm section. By the time he was teenager, he was a competent and sought after bassist gigging regularly.

In 2007, Dane and Brynen started the band Mythology, seeking to break free of genre constraints and perform unique, hard-hitting original music. The band has since released four albums since starting.
When not playing music, Dane enjoys exploring nature with his dog, road tripping with his girl, floatin’ on his boat, shootin’ his guns, and livin’ in the USA.

Jordan Morrissey

Born and raised in New Jersey, Jordan Morrissey has been performing live music for over 15 years. Whether it’s fronting numerous bands as both the drummer and lead vocalist, to songwriting, arranging and producing, Jordan has shown himself to be a multi-tasker among his peers.

Starting with pots and pans at the age of 3, Jordan has been playing drums for most of his life. Receiving orchestral training in percussion and group choral vocal training in his early teens and through high school, he learned to perform onstage in a group. Steeped in the classic rock tutalige of his parents, Jordan gravitated to the drum kit at the age of 14, developing his own style informed by Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, Levon Helm, Mitch Mitchel and John Densmoore. The discovery of punk, prog and hard rock and metal in his later teens added a technical yet maniacal edge to his style and led to him joining various punk and metal bands before co-founding and fronting the band And the Zombie from 2006 to 2010 where he functioned as the drummer and lead singer.

During this time, Jordan added songwriting and arranging to his resume, functioning as one of the two primary songwriters and arrangers of the band. He was responsible for half of the bands catalog. He made 2 albums with And the Zombie where he functioned as not only drummer, lead singer and songwriter, but also producer. Jordan’s work with And the Zombie led him to joining other various musical projects which included joining the NJ area prog jazz fusion band Mythology as their drummer, and starting the indie rock band SubLoco.
